Who Are You?

January 5, 2025

Pastor Craig Walker

“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

(Genesis 1:27, New Living Translation)

“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”

(Ephesians 1:4, NLT)

If you want to reach your God-given potential,

you need a God-given identity.

I. YOU ARE GOD’S MASTERPIECE

“For we are God’s masterpiece.”

1. Before you can fully appreciate who you are, you must understand whose you are.

2. You are a masterpiece.

“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.”

(Ephesians 2:6–7, NLT)

II. HE CREATED YOU ANEW

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus.”

(Ephesians 2:10b)

• Not “brand-new” but anew.

• God didn’t make you new to be someone you never were. He created you anew to be who you always were—His masterpiece.

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

(John 3:6, English Standard Version)

III. HE MADE US NEW, TO DO GOOD THINGS

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

(Ephesians 2:10c, NLT emphasis added)

“So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.”

(2 Thessalonians 1:11, NLT)

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.”

(Psalm 139:13–15, NLT)

IV. YOUR DECLARATION

If you want to reach your God-given potential, you must accept your God-given identity.
