Light In The Darkness

Part Three

December 15, 2024

“Thelight shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

(John 1:5, English Standard Version)

10 He was in the world, and the world wasmade through him, yet the world did not know him.

11 He came to his own,

and his own people did not receive him.

12 But to all who did receive him,

who believed in his name,

he gave the right to become children of God,

(John 1:10-12. ESV)

HOW DO I OPEN GOD’S CHRISTMAS GIFT?

“But to all who did receive him,” (12a)

1.  I have to open my heart to God’s Word.

“To all. . . . who believed in his name” (12b)

2.  I have to believe in Jesus’ Name.

“Foreveryone has sinned; we all fall short of God’sglorious standard.”

(Romans 3:23, New Living Translation)

“Forthe wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life throughChrist Jesus our Lord.”

(Romans 6:23, NLT)

 3.  I have to become God’s Child.

“he gave the right to become children of God,” (12c)

“Ihave been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go andmake disciples of all the nations.”

(Matthew28:18–19, NLT)

“Therefore,if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away;behold, all things have become new.”

(2 Corinthians 5:17, New KingJames Version)

13 who were born,

not of blood

nor of the will of the flesh

nor of the will of man,

but of God.

(John1:13, ESV)

WHATDOES IT MEAN TO LIVE LIKE A CHILD OF GOD?

Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”

The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the MostHigh will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, [set apart, special] and he will be called the Son of God.”        (Luke 1:34–35, NLT)

Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant.May everything you have said about me come true.”

(Luke 1:38, NLT)

“Youare blessed because you believed that theLord would do what he said.”

(Luke 1:45, NLT)

“Youwill conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.”

(Luke 1:31, NLT)
