Part Four- The Word Became Flesh

December 22, 2024

“Inthe beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. .. . In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in thedarkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”     (John 1:1–5, English StandardVersion)

“Andthe Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory asof the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

(John 1:14, ESV)

“If you remain faithful to my teachings . . . . you will knowthe truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31–32, New Living Translation)

WHATDOES THE STORY OF CHRISTMAS MEAN TO US?

“Andthe Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”

(14a)

1.              Jesus became one of us!

“Andwhile they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth toher firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in amanger, because there was no lodging available for them.”

(Luke 2:6–7, NLT)

“…and we have seen his glory,

glory as of the only Son from the Father…”

(14b)

2.              Jesus’ light shines into our dark world.

“Thatnight there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocksof sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’sglory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. ‘Don’t be afraid!’ he said. ‘I bring you good news that willbring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today inBethlehem, the city of David!’”

(Luke 2:8–11, NLT)

. . . . Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host ofothers—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, “Glory toGod in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”       (Luke2:13–14, NLT)

“…full of grace and truth.”

(14c)

3.      Jesus offers us grace and truth.

“Forby grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; itis the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

(Ephesians 2:8–9, ESV)

“I amthe way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except throughme.”

(John 14:6, NLT)

“ForGod so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in himshould not perish but have eternal life.”

(John 3:16, ESV)

“Look,God’s home is now among his people! Hewill live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be withthem. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more deathor sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

(Revelation 21:3–4, NLT)

“When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds saidto each other, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem!Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. Andthere was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angelhad said to them about this child.”                                           (Luke 2:15–17, NLT)
