Hungry?
Part One - Hungry for Breakthrough
March 10, 2024

"When the days drew near for [Jesus] to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem."
(Luke 9:51, English Standard Version)

"Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry."
(Luke 4:1–2, New Living Translation)

"Then the devil said to him, 'If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.' But Jesus told him, 'No! The Scriptures say, "People do not live by bread alone."'"
(Luke 4:3–4, NLT)

What is Fasting?
Going without food (and/or something else) for period of a time to focus on God.

Don't fast for the wrong reasons!
"And when you fast, don't make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you."
(Matthew 6:16–18, NLT)

What Will Happen when I Fast for the Right Reasons?

  1. I will see miraculous answers to my prayers.
"[Anna] lived as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting and prayer." (Luke 2:37, NLT)

"[Anna] came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began praising God. She talked about the child to everyone who had been waiting expectantly for God to rescue Jerusalem." (Luke 2:38, NLT)

"Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them." (Joshua 1:6, NLT)

  1. I will see supernatural deliverance from my problems.
"Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die." (Esther 4:16)

21 Days of Fasting & Prayer (https://bit.ly/fandp21days)

  1. I will see the Holy Spirit's power in my life.
"Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit's power." (Luke 4:14, NLT)

"I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!" (John 14:12–14, NLT)

For the next 21 days, I am fasting from:

"[Jesus] took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, 'Take this and share it among yourselves. For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.'"
(Luke 22:17-18, NLT)

"For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord's death until he comes again. So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God's judgment upon yourself. That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died. But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way."
(1 Corinthians 11:26–31, NLT)

"[Jesus] took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, 'This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.'"
(Luke 22:19, NLT)

"After supper he took another cup of wine and said, 'This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.'"
(Luke 22:20, NLT)
