Breaking the Chains of the Love of Money

The unhealthy love of money has the potential to control me, enslave me, and keep me in bondage.

"The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:10, New Living Translation)

Break the chains of selfishness by practicing generosity

"Quit being so full of [your]selves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow…. go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage… do good… be rich in helping others… be extravagantly generous. If [you] do that, [you'll] build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life." (1 Timothy 6:17-19, The Message)

Break the chains of comparison by practicing being content

"I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little." (Philippians 4:11-12, NLT 2nd Edition)

"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for [God] has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'" (Hebrews 13:5, English Standard Version)

"God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?" (Matthew 6:30, NLT2)

Break the chains of laziness by being disciplined

• Make a budget
• Ask yourself some difficult questions
• Ask for help

"No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." (Matthew 6:24, NLT2)

Break the chains of the love of money, by choosing to serve only Jesus

"Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be." (Matthew 6:21, NLT2)
