Anger: Good or Bad? Part 2
November 17, 2024
Key Scripture
"Now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language."(Colossians 3:8, New Living Translation)
HOW DO WE DEAL WITH OUR ANGER?
1. Is it ok to get angry?
- Anger is a signal
- Scripture: "Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil." (Ephesians 4:26–27, ESV)
2. What is making us angry?
- Ask yourself why this bothers you
- Scripture: "Why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying, 'Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,' when you can't see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye." (Luke 6:41–42, NLT)
3. What do we do with our anger?
Reflect on these questions:
- What happened?
- How did it make me feel?
- What's the damage?
- What's my responsibility?
Scripture: "Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God." (James 1:19–20, ESV)
4. Who has control of my life?
Key Scriptures:
- "God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body." (1 Corinthians 6:20, NLT)
- "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT)
Important Point: Give Jesus your right to get angry.
Final Scripture: "Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, 'I will take revenge; I will pay them back,' says the Lord. ... Don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good." (Romans 12:19–21, NLT)
